England-Scotland

1-5, 9-3, 2-3, 1-2 and 2-0... That’s not an IQ test question, rather the results at Wembley over the years (1928, 1961, 1967, 1977 and 1996 respectively) in the not necessarily friendly England-Scotland football fixtures.

Risking our hard earned money on the outcome of a friendly match is never easy as it tends not to bring the most out of managers in terms of team selection and tactics and, crucially, the players themselves. But any kind of sporting event between age-old rivals England and their northern neighbours is sure to inspire the kind of attitude the fans are clearly going to expect. With this in mind it’s worth having a look at what odds the mobile sports betting operators are offering.
Form, for example, can mean nothing when (what is effectively) a derby match is concerned. Scotland’s best win, for instance, came in 1967, with England’s reign as World Cup winners not even a year old (not forgetting that England were looking to extend an unbeaten run to 20 matches; those were the days...).

The fans, too, have been known to be - for want of a better word - passionate about this fixture, most infamously when, in 1977, Scotland fans reacted to the final whistle by teeming on to the pitch, ripping out the goalposts and helping themselves to some of the hallowed Wembley turf.
The actual match winner market not surprisingly has the much higher ranked England as hot favourites, available through gambling4mobiles at 4/9, which probably won’t improve by the Wednesday 8pm kick-off. Scotland can be back at 8/1 by those who think an upset could be possible, while the draw is 7/2. Going on the present state of football in both national teams, with a certain amount of rebuilding seemingly imperative, Scotland’s endeavours might be geared more towards pride in their performance rather than victory.

Indeed damage limitation would best describe the Winning Margin market, with England winning by three or more goals, for example, a tempting 11/4 (England by one goal is 5/2 and 3/1 is available for them to win by two goals). Finally, the ‘No’ outcome in the Both Teams to Score market is an interesting 4/6, while we could be forgiven for considering the 11/10 for goals from both teams to be on the short side.
