Mobile Sports Betting: Tennis

It’s always interesting having a look at the odds of major events in advance, especially when the contenders are busy participating in another big tournament. Clearly such a market is going to experience movement at some point, and not necessarily because of how certain players are faring today. For example Andy Murray’s pre-emptive withdrawal from the French Open might cause concern that he won’t be properly ready for Wimbledon but, of all the potential favourites for glory at the All-England Club, the determined Scot has been attracting more betting interest than any of his rivals – a quarter of all bets, in fact.

The Wimbledon favourite, not surprisingly, is Novak Djokovic, whose quest for tennis perfection (if there were such a thing) seems rarely to falter these days. At the time of writing – with the fourth round of the French Open still to be completed, it’s still possible through gambling4mobiles to find 2/1 for the Serb, but at least a couple of online betting operators are down to 7/4! We could be forgiven for believing (or hoping) better value might materialise but even at these odds Djokovic has been garnering around a fifth of the total bets. Birthday Boy Rafael Nadal (the ‘non-grass’ specialist is 27 today) and Murray are hovering around 4/1, although the latter is edging closer to 7/2 as interest continues. Roger Federer is a pretty uniform 9/2 and then there’s a conspicuous gap to popular Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at 25/1…

In fact Federer and Tsonga will meet in the quarter-final stage of the French Open after the Swiss ace recorded his 900th tour-level victory in the fourth round despite having to come back from two sets to one down against another home player, Gilles Simon, eventually winning 6-1 4-6 2-6 6-2 6-3. The reward for ‘veteran’ Federer was an extension to his record of consecutive appearances in the last eight at grand slams, which now stands at an amazing 36.

Serena Williams, who is blazing an ostensibly effortless trail through the rounds in Paris, is currently a best-priced evens for Wimbledon through gambling4mobiles (and she’s attracting over 40% of the bets). Mobile gambling fans keen on backing Williams but planning on waiting for more might be disappointed. Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova are both around 5/1.
